I have been sick all week.
I believe I have a variation of the flu.
I'm still sick but not as sick now as I was earlier in the week.
I may have COVID but I decided not to test. I may test in the future just out of curiosity but I'm just too exhausted now to figure it out. I still have those free self home tests that the government sent to us a few years ago.
This is the sickest I've been in at least fifteen years.
I've always prided myself on always sanitizing my hands before I grab a grocery cart during my many trips to my local supermarket. I think that precaution has kept me from contacting the virus that causes the flu.
I noticed during my stay in California, the stores did not have sanitizing machines outside the supermarkets. And of course I had a lot of interaction with other people, way more than I have here at Casa Tipton-Kelly. I may have contacted the virus there. The Wednesday before I left California I was so sick that I stayed in all day and slept. I thought I was over it the next day.
However, on my flight from Dallas-Fort Worth airport, I was seated in the middle section of one of those jumbo jets (first time for me). The guy across the row from my coughed openly (didn't use his hand to cover his pie hole) the whole four hour trip back to Philadelphia. That's probably where I contacted the flu virus.
The last time I had a cold this bad I caught on my commuter train from Downingtown to Philadelphia way back in the early nineties. A guy behind me sneezed openly on me. I felt the shower spray of his sneeze on the back of my neck. I got so sick that time I just wanted to die. That's the way I felt this week folks. I had forgotten how bad having the flu makes you feel.
I ached all over.
I had no energy.
I had no appetite.
Funny thing about the appetite, seems no matter how much weight I lose (I lost about six pounds), nothing touches that spare tire around my waist. I could be skin and bones and that inter tube of fat stays. It is indestructible.
I've been so sick I haven't even updated my journal.
Hopefully this coming week I can return to my normal routine and share more of my experience of my two week holiday in California.
