Me, today, back in cold Delaware sans palm trees |
Okay folks, I've been home for two days now. I think I've just about caught up on my sleep. After breakfast this morning I went back to bed with my "Marilyn" biography that I'm reading. I promptly fell asleep until noon. Had lunch then went to Food Lion (pictured above) to get some vitals then back home . . . . and nap time. Yes, I do sleep that much.
As much as I enjoyed my ten day vacation in balmy, sunny California I didn't get much sleep. Pat didn't either. He estimates he averaged about three hours a night. I got a bit more but not much. No complaints from me though. Every hour I was awake in California was well worth the sleep deprivation. But now it is time to get back to reality and my old sleep pattern.
One good thing about my California trip, I lost six pounds. All around the waist, which is where I needed to lose the flub a dub dub. Even though we ate often during our California stay, the food was all veggie and healthy. Oh how I wish I had that option around here in LSD, where crab cakes and hamburgers are the mainstay. You won't see any Veggie Grills around these parts anytime soon, too healthy and not profitable enough. A Veggie Grill type restaurant would put Sysco out of business and what would Rehoboth Beach look like in the early morning if not for the steady roar of Sysco trucks injecting their frozen food into the local overpriced restaurants? One of the many downsides folks of living in a resort community that I am slowly becoming aware of. LSD could never sustain a Veggie Grill - too crowded in the summertime and not enough business in the winter. But I'm off on another tangent here aren't I?
One more day and I'm back at work. I'm actually looking forward to going back to work. That's another good thing about going away for a while, not only do you feel better about coming home (a new appreciation), one also feels better about returning to work. Plus, now I have to replenish the coffers for my reckless drunken sailor splurges while I was in the City of Angels. As you all know I'm not a rich man but a humble former bank employee who subsists on a few static bank pensions and Social Security. I used to have savings but they were effectively wiped out during the Great Stock Market Crash of 2000, from which I have never recovered. My part-time hotel job enables me to occasionally escape my retirement routine here in Lower Slower Delaware. I am most fortunate in that respect.
Right now I have two friends who are undergoing a serious medical crises. In fact I don't even know if they are still alive. While I feel bad for them and feel helpless to alleviate their situation, I know eventually their fate will befall me. All my life I have waited and anticipated on going on such a vacation that I went on last week and I am so thankful that I was able to realize my dream. I will continue to plan future "vacations" until I can no longer function. The time for putting things off until "later" is over. The time is now.
In future blog posts I will share some of the several hundred photos that I took during my stay in Los Angeles. That's what I love about taking pictures, I can relive that wonderful time over and over again. And I hope to make more memories in the future. But for now I am so thankful for what I have and my new memories. And I am especially thankful for having the opportunity to meet in person two more blogger friends, Nadege and Tony D.
